Newmilns is a former textile village seven miles east of Kilmarnock in the Irvine Valley, East Ayrshire, between Galston and Darvel. Established in 1490 by Campbell of Loudon, 16th century refugees from France and Flanders brought lace-making skills to Newmilns, which was also a centre for Covenanters. In the 19th century Newmilns was given a US flag as thanks for its written support of the Union cause during the American Civil War. Landmarks include Newmilns Tower, the Town House, Morton Hall, Lady Flora's Institute and the Snow and Sports Complex north of the village. Newmilns is home to 3300 people and s1newmilns.com has been developed to allow residents to share their news, views and opinions, make announcements, publicise events and show off their photos and videos.
